Chola Trail

Nesting in the heart of Tamil Nadu once ruled a great dynasty, whose intelligence and the administration still work today. Ruling for many centuries, the Cholas spread their wings far and wide across much of the Indian sub-continent and South-East Asia. Under their rule art, architecture, music, dance, language, administration, ship-building, and bronze casting proliferated immensely. The 9th to 13th century was a golden time indeed. Much of the opulence of this great dynasty has not been documented extensively, however, the marvels they had given us stands proud and tall to date. Temples at Thanjavur, Gangaikondacholapuram, and Darasuram sing praises of this magnificent dynasty. A thriving cultural land, Thanjavur has seen the rise and fall of legendary dynasties, and on the way imbibed their traditions. A continuous lineage of these dynasties resonates in this city.
